Free for 5 articles/month ยท Pro: $5/mo for unlimited

Step-by-step: listen to articles by email

Three steps. Takes about 30 seconds to set up โ€” then every future article is one email away.

  1. 1
๐Ÿ“ง Email the article to SpeakIt

Open any email client and compose a new message to please@speakit4.me. In the body, paste the article URL (any website, blog, Wikipedia page, Substack, etc.), paste raw text directly, or attach a screenshot of the content. Subject line is optional โ€” SpeakIt ignores it.

    To: please@speakit4.me
    Subject: (anything, or leave blank)
    Body: https://example.com/article-you-want-to-hear
  2. 2
โœ… Confirm your address (first-time only)

If this is your first submission, SpeakIt sends you a short confirmation email with a validation link. Click the link โ€” that's it. You'll only ever do this once. Every future article goes straight through with no extra step.

๐Ÿ’กCheck your spam folder if you don't see the confirmation email within a minute.
  3. 3
๐ŸŽง Get your clean text + MP3 audio reply

Within ~1โ€“2 minutes, SpeakIt replies with two things: a clean plain-text version of the article (ads, navigation, and clutter stripped) and an MP3 audio file you can play directly in your email, download, or transfer to any podcast app or device.

๐Ÿ“„Clean plain-text article (no ads or clutter)
๐ŸŽตMP3 audio file โ€” play it anywhere

What you can send

SpeakIt accepts three types of input โ€” use whichever is handy.

๐Ÿ”—
A URL

Paste any article link in the email body. Works with Wikipedia, NYT, The Guardian, Substack, Medium, Hacker News, company blogs, research papers, and most public webpages.

๐Ÿ“
Raw text

Paste the article text directly into the email body. Useful for paywalled articles where you already have the text, newsletters, or PDFs you can copy from.

๐Ÿ“ท
A screenshot or image

Attach a photo or screenshot of the article to your email. SpeakIt reads the text from the image using OCR and converts it to audio.

Frequently asked questions

Is SpeakIt free?+

Yes. The free tier gives you 5 audio conversions per month at no cost. For unlimited conversions, SpeakIt Pro is $5/month with priority processing.

Do I need to create an account?+

No. First-time senders receive a one-time email asking them to confirm their address. Click the link once โ€” that's all. No account, no password, no app to install.

How long does it take?+

Typically 1โ€“2 minutes for free-tier submissions. Pro subscribers get priority processing, so results arrive faster.

What format is the audio?+

You receive an MP3 audio file. Depending on the article length, it arrives as an email attachment or a hosted audio link. You also get a clean plain-text version of the article in the same reply.

What can I send?+

Three options: (1) paste an article URL in the email body, (2) paste raw article text, or (3) attach a screenshot or photo of the article. SpeakIt handles all three.

Does it work with paywalled articles?+

SpeakIt reads publicly accessible content. For paywalled articles, paste the article text directly into the email body instead of sending the URL.

Can I listen offline?+

Yes. Download the MP3 to your phone or computer and play it in any audio player without an internet connection. You can also import it into a podcast app.

What happens to my audio after I receive it?+

SpeakIt deletes audio files after 7 days. Your content is not stored permanently, indexed, or used for advertising.
